0:02Welcome. It's a blessing and a joy to be here. And this is the second presentation in the physical series and it's titled Illness. Lessons from your unconscious. And in this presentation there are two parts, part one, the nature of illness,

0:25and part two, a holistic perspective of health. But just before we begin, I would like to do a one minute centering exercise, bring you into present time and to help you let go of any stress you may be feeling. So spine straight, head erect, eyes gently closed,

0:49and absolutely perfectly still. Take in a really deep breath through the nose and make a long sigh sound out through the mouth. And now take two long slow breaths in and out through your nose. And bring your attention back to the screen.

1:46In this section, I want to discuss the nature of illness. But before I talk about illness, I want to make a distinction between physical detoxification and physical illness. They can both feel the same because you can have symptoms of nausea, you could break out in a rash or have a high temperature. But the difference between the two is the timeframe and the frame of mind that you're in.

2:16With detoxifying, it usually lasts one to four days and the person is usually in a positive frame of mind before returning to good health. It's like a healing crisis, which is usually a temporary worsening of the symptoms as the body expels the toxins. It's a positive experience. While with illness, the symptoms last much longer and may persist for weeks or months.

2:46And the experience is seen as a negative. So there's very two very dyscyic differences. Are we having a detox or are we in the middle of an illness? Another piece of information I need to give you so that you can put this whole illness thing into perspective is the fall levels of consciousness.

3:11And consciousness in this instance is just basically different ways of thinking about things. Everything is one. There's all unity, ultimately. But you can look at there's a spiritual perspective and that's your awareness. It's like being awake, having a sense of presence.

3:31There's a mental form of consciousness. That's the mind, thought, attitude, planning, problem solving, evaluating. And then there's the emotional side, which we call the feeling, sense of compassion, emotional intelligence, emotional sense of activity. And then the physical, it's the body, the experience of pleasure and pain and being physically fit and healthy.

4:03Now, these levels of consciousness can either be in balance or out of balance. And an example of out of balance is this next slide. And they work from the top down. And with spiritual, it's a sense of separation.

4:27I'm disconnected. I'm disconnected from the people around me. I feel disconnected from the world. I feel disconnected from my friends and family.

4:37From a mental perspective, it's unconscious. I've forgotten. I can't remember. From an emotional perspective, we call it disassociation, which is a disconnection from your feelings. You don't connect to the feelings. You can't feel them.

4:52A lot of the feelings have been suppressed. It's a loss of sensitivity. It's not that you never feel feelings, but the finite elements of your feeling is not available to you. And then physical, it's the build up of tension and eventually becomes disease.

5:12And when the levels of consciousness are in balance, it is a sense of connection. I feel like I belong and I'm part of everything. I can remember. I know what things are about. I understand what's occurring. I'm able to feel. I'm empathetic.

5:32And I can feel my own internal process. There's a physical ailment and I also have a corresponding emotion that is connected to that. And ultimately, I feel relaxed. And so these levels of consciousness work out work from the top down.

5:53And so if I'm experiencing a physical illness, then there's already three layers above it that have in some way contributed to it. And I define illness as the body's reaction to protecting healing and or nurturing itself from one or more of the following effects.

6:18And the following effects can be put into two categories. One is physiological to do with the body and the other one is psychological to do with the mind. And from a physiological body perspective, there are a number of categories. The first one is parasites and that can be bacterium viruses and fungi.

6:45So there's these external parasites that have an effect on us. Then we have toxins and they can be lead pesticides, preservatives, artificial chemicals, some prescription medications, alcohol, nicotine, refined sugar. You know, the number of toxins in the environment numbers in the tens of thousands.

7:10But you're not going to be exposed to that number of toxins. And then we can have nutritional issues, nutritional deficiencies with vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, etc. And sugars, oils, a whole lot of things. There can be radiation.

7:29You know, it could be affected by microwaves, high frequency transmissions, strong magnetic fields, excessive sunlight. And then there is injury. You can either be hit, cut, or burnt in some way. And then another physiological effect is the weather in the seasons.

7:52You know, wind, cold, damp, lack of sunlight can also have major impacts on our health. And there's also environmental issues. If you're in a situation where there's a lot of conflict, you know, there's a lot of arguing and fighting. Or if you're in a very, very extreme situation, say you're in a war zone, well that's bad for your health.

8:15Regardless. Or you're working long hours. You've got tight deadlines. You're sitting bad posture.

8:22You walk with a bad posture. There's a lot of disorganization and clutter around you. These are all external physical stimuli that are putting a burden, a load on your system that makes you susceptible to some ailment. As well as the physiological side of things, there also is a whole psychological element to it.

8:49And the psychological is in a number of categories also. The psychosomatic and psychosomatic does not mean imagination. Psychosomatic means it's a psychological cause to the body of the soma feeling under pressure. And it can be emotional and psychological causes.

9:11You know, as I said, arguments. You're feeling very distressed or paranoid or anxious about something. There's a lot of conflict or loss. There's a loss of a relationship, a loss of a job, a loss of finance, bankruptcy.

9:29There could be a death in the family. And so these are psychosomatic causes. They put a tremendous amount of pressure on you psychologically, which has a huge effect physically. And then the psychological is emotional conditioning.

9:48And this is usually from your childhood and the past. And it's unresolved childhood experiences. You may have had a situation in your past where your mother was very ill for a considerable time. Or your father may have experienced a lot of alcoholic problems.

10:04Or there may have been physical or sexual abuse. There could have been issues around developmental stages in your life. Where there was a lot of neglect people were absent. You lost someone who you were very close to at a very young age.

10:21All of these things will have an impact on your psychology and can lead over into your physical health. And then stress, stress again, conflict with others, just conflict with what's involved you. You've got so many things to do in such a short period of time. And you're doing things that aren't in alignment with your integrity.

10:48You don't like doing the work you're doing, all being around the people that you're with. And definitely unrealistic expectations are a big deal. Another element is biorethms. Some biorethms work with your respiration.

11:05Your body works differently. You know, where respiration is more active during the day. And less active at night, it can be affected by lack of sleep. Your kidneys, because you're constantly in a sense on stress.

11:23Your pulse rate, this is an acupuncture, Chinese, medical sort of diagnosis. Your female menstrual cycle, women at different times in the month, feel very energetically high or very energetically low. And there are biorethms that work on a 28 day emotional cycle and a 33 day intellectual cycle. And your biorethms can very much affect how you feel.

11:53At this point of time, for some reason, you just feel flat. And that's an impact. There's also what I call karmic, and this is to do with something you've inherited. And that's an ancestral winding.

12:09Your parents may have gone through some very difficult times before you were born and had some resolved with them. Most members of the family died in a really bad way. They may have immigrated to another country. There is grandparents who went through the war or went through extremely difficult situations.

12:30And they shut down the way the genes work. So that's epigenetics and genetics is really the way the genes are structured. And there's also past life issues. And there's also more than just a physical body.

12:45We are an awareness that's come through from before. So there is this combination of the physiological and the psychological. And it's the combination of these two that create an illness. Just having a physical effect, you know, if a germ comes in and you come down with a cold, if it's a young child,

13:10or a sniffly nose, they'll be runny, they might be shivering and things like that. But they tend to throw it off very quickly and they come back very fast. Because they're not carrying a whole lot of psychology that keeps it locked in. But for adults, because we have so much psychological conditioning,

13:31that stimulus from the external environment becomes more than just a healing crisis, a detoxifying experience, it gets locked in because of the unresolved psychological side of it. And my definition is whether the symptom progresses from a detoxing experience to an illness depends on the underlying psychology of that person. Illness is a combination of an external physiological trigger and the psychological pattern.

14:10And so it's the combination of the two that create an event to become an illness. So the mind has a major impact on whether you coming into contact with some external bacteria or virus. And whether that's going to create an illness for you, or whether that's just something that's a 24-hour cold, you know, your sneezing, your cough and it goes. So the mind is a major factor in the body being healthy.

14:48And an example of the mind on the body is the placebo effect. The word placebo is Latin for I will please. And refers to any medical treatment that is inert, has no active properties. A placebo doesn't have to be a pill.

15:10It can be an inert or dummy treatment. The placebo effect is the positive effect on a person's health experienced after taking a placebo, which is something that ultimately has no medicinal benefit. But the fact that they thought it had a medicinal benefit means it does have a benefit.

15:35And it's triggered by the person's belief in the benefit from the treatment. And their expectations are feeling better. This is a quote and it says, the placebo effect is more than positive thinking. Believing a treatment or procedure will work.

15:54It's about the connection between the brain and the body and how they work together. And this is Professor Ted Kaptchuk of Harvard University. And he sees that the placebo effect is something very, very powerful. The placebo effect has been shown to have measurable effects on blood pressure, heart rate,

16:19the release of endorphins and the reduction of levels of adrenaline. So they can put machines on people and measure and see, wow, there is a major physiological change in what's occurring. In this next section, it's a holistic view of health. I want to read to you a series of quotes from leading authorities in the field.

16:47And the first one is Dr. Edward Barr. And he was born on the 24th of September 1886 and died on the 27th of November 1936. He was a surgeon and a casualty medical officer at the University College Hospital in London and practiced for over 20 years in London as a Harley Street consultant and bacteriologist. And he joined the laboratories of the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital in 1919 and his famous various development of the bar flower remedies.

17:29So a very, very wise man and a very experienced medical practitioner. To quote, he says, that disease will never be cured or eradicated by present materialistic methods for the simple reason that disease in its origin is not material. Disease will never be truly eradicated except by spiritual and mental effort.

18:03Dr. Edward Barr. And he said that somewhere in the 1930s. The other person I want to introduce you to is Dr. John Harrison. And after completing his medical degree, he studied naturalopathy and spent more than 10 years learning from healers all around the world.

18:26And he's the author of Love Your Disease. It's keeping you healthy, which has sold over 100,000 copies and has become a classic in the field of mind, body, medicine. And to quote Dr. John Harrison, he says, the body itself has no power to generate illness.

18:51Illness is merely the shadow thrown by the mind. A healthy mind will shadow forth a healthy body. An unhealthy mind will shadow forth an unhealthy body. Every new cell created in the body is either a negative or positive thought form.

19:17In the old days, it was customary to say that cells are built under the influence of either negative or positive thought. In reality, the cells are the thought itself. Healthy thoughts mean healthy cells. Sick thoughts mean sick cells.

19:47Dr. John Harrison. The next person I want to introduce you to is Dr. Deepak Chopra. He is one of the world's pioneers in integrated medicine and personal transformation. He serves as a clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego.

20:07He has written numerous New York times best cellers, which have been translated into over 43 languages. The world post and the Huffington Post, global internet surveys ranked Dr. Chopra as 17th most influential thinker in the world. And number one, in medicine. So this man comes with tremendous credentials and massive experience.

20:41And what he says is that our bodies ultimately are fields of information, intelligence and energy. Quantum healing involves a shift in the fields of energy information. So as to bring about a correction in an idea that's gone wrong. So quantum healing involves healing one mode of consciousness mind to bring about changes in another mode of consciousness body.

21:19There's a Deepak Chopra and it comes from his book Quantum Healing. And in the same book he says, every single thought you have, where the good or bad produces a corresponding good or bad neuro peptide. This means that chemicals are formed by your thoughts in your brain. And these influence the trillions of cells in your body, good or bad.

21:49And so another person I want you to introduce you to is Louise Lynn Hay. These are all eminent authorities in their fields. And she was born on the 8th of October 1926 and died on 30 August 2017, age 90 years. And American motivational author and the founder of Hay House Publishing.

22:18She's self-authored several self-help books, including the 1980 for Classic You Can Heal Your Life. And You Can Heal Your Life explains the mental causes of physical ailments and provides positive thought patterns for reversing illness and creating health. It reinforces something that traditional Chinese medicine doctors have known for thousands of years, that each organ can express an emotion. And this is her book. You Can Heal Your Life, a classic, highly recommended.

23:02And Louise was able to put her philosophies into practice when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1980. She considered the alternatives to surgery and drugs and instead developed an intensive program of affirmations, visualization, nutritional, cleansing and psychotherapy. And within six months she was completely healed of cancer. And this was the major motivation for her to write the book and put it out there, because she had experienced directly herself.

23:39The ability to heal a life-threatening ailment, the people said, no, there's no way you could do it. And, admittedly, you know, she's a very highly motivated and very powerful woman. But she did it within six months if it takes you one year or two years. So what? If you really go for it, there's another way.

24:04To quote from Dr. Eric Bakker, a naturopathic physician, he says, as crazy as it sounds, ultimately it is your own choice to heal or not to heal. It is your own innate healing ability that is activated by your desire to get well. The practitioner is the facilitator and not the healer. You are the healer.

24:36Pharmaceutical drugs never cure. Your body does all this by itself. And drugs often hinder the process. It's possible that even a single period of intense stress, such as a divorce, a death of a family member, loss of a job, a bankruptcy, or other life-changing event, may eventually lead to serious damage, which could trigger the development of a chronic disease such as cancer.

25:11So this extreme stress could damage the tissue. That's Dr. Eric Bakker. I want to introduce you now to another imminent authority in his field. And that is Alberto Villaldo, PhD.

25:31He's a Cuban-born psychologist, medical anthropologist and author, writing in the field of neo-Sharmonism. And he's written more than eight books and is published through Hayhouse in the United States. Now neo-Sharmonism is like a modern take on a shamanistic tradition. And just to understand the word, Charmon is really an indigenous medical person, a witch doctor, we might say.

26:07You know, a spiritual healer of some sort. But just because it's indigenous doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about. These people, indigenous people, have been working for thousands and thousands of years. And they have a massive history of what works and what doesn't work.

26:28And so to study the traditional approach to healing can be very rewarding. And at one point, Alberto Villaldo was hired by one of the drug companies to go to the Amazon and study medicinal plants, so that they could then, you know, create drugs from them. And it's from that experience that he then got involved in this whole Charmon thing.

26:58And so I want to read what Alberto says. And he's giving a modern take on a traditional way of healing. And these quotes come from an interview in 2020 with Kelly Nunnen-Gores and the full PDF of the interviews available on the member site. And Alberto is asked the question, how do we reconnect with nature?

27:34And he says, well, going out for walks in nature is important. Eating organic, eating natural, blessing your food. But even more important is reclaiming your body. Finding those parts of your body that you really don't like and reclaiming them.

27:57The part of you that you think people are going to say that it is a little bit too fat. Reclaim your body. Say, yes, I love my body. I love myself. You are the product of 2,000 million years of evolution. So love yourself, love your body.

28:23This is how you reconnect with nature. Because your body is the closest thing to nature we have. In the next slide, he's answering a question about experiments that we're done with probiotic bacteria, which are normally positive bacteria for the gut.

28:44That's why we take yogurt and things like that. And the researchers were surprised that some people were not experiencing beneficial effects from the probiotic bacteria. And they couldn't work out why it was happening. And he explains that the earth knows when we are against her and she will reject us.

29:13And supposedly good things won't work or may become toxic because the earth will support what it sees as being supportive of life and reject when it sees it as being negative. So as soon as people were positive to loving, supporting and protecting the earth, that bacteria became beneficial in the gut, it had that measurable effect.

29:43And he was saying, this is the reason why the gut bacteria wasn't working because these people were negative as far as separating themselves from the earth and not being connected. And he's bringing a shamanistic perspective to explaining a research observation. And he says in the next slide, it's important to find that dialogue with the earth again. So you know that we're the only people on the planet that were ever kicked out of the Garden of Eden.

30:20We're kicked out of our relationship with nature where we could speak with God and to the rivers and the trees. And God, the rivers and the trees and the plants and the herbs would talk back to us. You know, the aborigines weren't kicked out. The sub-Saharan Africans weren't. The native Americans weren't. They were given the Garden to be the stewards and the caretakers of the Garden.

30:51So you return to nature by making a commitment to become a steward and a caretaker of the earth to become an earth keeper. The minute you make that commitment, the connection is automatic. You can go for a walk through nature and enjoy nature and hear the sound of the birds and the leaves rustling and it's beautiful. But nature will not connect with you until you make that commitment to become a caretaker of the earth.

31:33And then you will have the full bandwidth of the connection. This is on pages 16 to 17 of that interview I quoted that's on the member's side. And another quote from Alberto about how old are you? There's nobody in the planet older than seven years old because we grow a new body every seven years.

32:06And you can either grow a slightly more wrinkled and older version of who you are today. Or you can grow a new body that ages and heals and dies differently. For example, your skin cells die every six or seven days. The mucosa, that's the lining of your gut, is changed every three days.

32:32The lining of your lungs is every four days. Your bones change every five to six years. So you grow an entirely new body. And he's saying within a seven year period the whole thing's been replaced.

32:49So how old are you? And your mind is having a major impact. Forget about illness. It's having a major impact on how you age and how fit you are and how healthy you are. Alberto Vivaldo, he's giving us an ancient interpretation of something that is very relevant to us today.

33:16And so in summary, the nature of illness is an interaction between the mind and the body. A holistic perspective of health is release all negative thoughts. And most of them are unconscious. So you just have to then be a witness to what's coming up and choosing out of things that aren't resourceful thoughts that aren't resourceful.

33:43I don't want to believe that. I zero that thought. I don't know. Just because it comes into my mind, just because I feel that way doesn't mean I have to give myself a way to it. And choosing to become a steward of planet earth. Thank you for watching.

34:04I wish you a lifetime of good health. I would like to thank Radian Sokolov for marketing production and web design and Aaron McFarland for camera sound, lights and post production. And to remind you, breathe through your nose.
